Google TV

Google has unveiled Google TV at the I/O conference . It only makes sense for Google to get into the TV advertising game so that they can expand upon their advertising empire.

The basis for the box will be Android with a Chrome browser that has Flash 10.1 built in; you will be able to download apps on your computer and they will sync to your Google TV via the Wi-Fi connection. It appears that you will have to use a keyboard for text input and you will also be able to use your phone as well but to what extent is unclear.

Google announces Android 2.2

Google announced Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ will be available soon, and are releasing the SDK revision 4 to developers.

Android 2.2 promises to improve speed, API and services, browser and improved Android market to all Android-based headsets. Some of the new user features include new home screen tips widgets, providing tips on how to configure the home screen with shortcuts and widgets, optimizing the use of the multiple home screens

MSDN/TechNet Subscribers Can Download Office 2010

If you have an MSDN or TechNet subscription, Office 2010 is now available for download. In addition, Microsoft has made SharePoint 2010 and the Office Web Apps 2010 package (which requires a SharePoint Server) available for subscribers of both services.

Currently, two downloads are available at each site: 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions of the Professional Plus Retail edition.

Subscribers to each service get a single product key for the Office 2010 download. If past history holds true, this key can be used to activate two copies: one on a desktop PC, the other on a portable PC that is used by the same person as the desktop PC.

Google Android application from Microsoft ( Microsoft Tag )

Microsoft Tag is similar to QR Codes, however Microsoft is using HCCB bar codes so instead of storing the data using square pixels it uses triangle shapes and colours. The difference is that Microsoft Tags don’t actually store the information. All it stores is a unique ID which it then sends to Microsoft’s servers. This way, you can include much more information, and more variety of information, then if it was just on the tag itself.

Google introduces new Software Goggles

Google translate introduces Google Goggles prototype which integrates Google’s machine translation and image recognition technology.

Google Goggles allows users to take a screen shot of a or any text via the phone and you can translate in real time with the help of Google Goggles prototype.

This technology uses the mobile phone camera as the source to take screen shot and which is sent to optical character recognition (OCR) engine, recognizes the image as text and then translates to English with the help Google translate.

Presently, this technology can function just for German & English translations. It is not fully equipped to face all the languages yet.

New Linux OS to Fight iPhone and More

Nokia and Intel have just announced the creation of MeeGo, a new Linux-based operating system designed for portable devices including netbooks and smartphones as well as other non-desktop platforms like connected TVs and vehicles. The new OS is a combination of Nokia’s Maemo and Intel’s Moblin, both Linux-based computing environments. This partnership is notable not just for combining two different Linux platforms under one roof, but for its cross-platform support of both Intel and ARM chips, the latter currently popular in mobile devices like Apple’s iPhone thanks to its low power consumption needs.

Most probably MeeGo will arrive in the second quarter of 2010 with products becoming available starting in the third quarter.

Google announced Google Buzz. They’re calling it “a new way to share. Google notes that this is not a finished product. They are continuoulsy pushing it to integrate with more and more services. Buzz will also launch as an enterprise product and “will change the way businesses communicate.”

Oracle database can be hacked remotely by Researcher

A computer security expert believes that, the Oracle databases are vulnerable to an attack that would give hackers access and control over sensitive corporate and government database systems, without the need for a user id or password, according to Reuters.

Talking about the flaw after presenting his research at the Black Hat hacking conference in Washington on Wednesday, Litchfield said “It allows an attacker without a user ID and password to take complete control. All firewalls become irrelevant.”
